Korpinkierros is a wilderness trail in the Nuuksio National Park. The untouched nature of the national park provides a peaceful environment for hiking, and it is only 30 kilometres from the centre of Helsinki. The surface and terrain of the trail vary, and there are three campfire sites for resting along the way.
- Duration: about 3 h
- Trail markings: The trail has signposts, and the trail route is marked with yellow markings on the trees.
- Suitability: The trail is ideal for those looking for something slightly more challenging. There are a few short challenging sections on the trail.
Korpinkierros starts from the car park next to the Haukkalampi Nature House. In the nature house, you can learn about the nature of the area, and about Siberian Flying Squirrels in particular. The start of the trail passes through moss-covered terrain under spruce trees. As you approach Lake Mustalampi, the trail rises to the campfire site on the hill, where you can see the turf floats on the pond, among other things. After Lake Mustalampi, the trail continues to vary, travelling through the forest. There are two campfire sites at Lake Holma-Saarijärvi, one of which is located on an island, and the other right next to the shore on the other side of the lake.
Good to know
There are wet spots on the trail but, in drier weather, you can also wear light normal footwear on the trail. The distance between the first campfire site and the two last ones is long. Haukkalampi Nature House is the starting point for several circular trails in the Nuuksio National Park. The Päivättärenpolku and Maahisenkierros trails go close to the Finnish Nature Centre Haltia.
There are relatively steep hills on the trail, and there is one challenging rise at the start of the trail, 600 metres from the starting point. The surface of the trail is varying. Much of the trail goes over gently rising rocks as well as duckboards, which can be slippery to walk on in the rain. There are also dirt roads and narrow paths that sometimes have a lot of tree roots on the trail surface.
